Best Anti Wrinkle Solution
What is Botox®?
Botox is an approved, safe prescriptive medication, which is used to reduce or minimize wrinkles in the area it is applied. The most commonly treated areas are the deep lines between the eyebrows, the lines across the forehead and the lines around the eyes.
Is Botox safe?
Yes. Botox has been used for over 20 years, and has been used to treat many diseases. In fact, it is used in children as young as two years old who have cerebral palsy. It has been proven safe through extensive research and testing.
How does Botox work?
Botox is a medication that is injected into a specific muscle to promote muscle relaxation in muscles that create wrinkles, frown lines, laugh lines, and crow’s feet. The relaxation is a result on the ability of Botox to neutralize an enzyme in your body that causes your muscles to contract. After three to four months the Botox effect lessens and your muscles return to the function they had prior to the treatment.
What are the post treatment expectations?
Although rare, there is always a risk of bruising whenever a needle is being used. This may be minimized by stopping all medications that may be a blood thinner. We also use ice and a topical anaesthetic cream, which can make the blood vessels smaller. If you do have a bruise, you may use an arnica cream twice a day to speed its resolution. Makeup may be necessary for a few days. You will not see the effect of the Botox® for 3 –4 days after the treatment and the results may take as long as two weeks to achieve its full effect. Botox® treatments are tailored specifically to each individual. We like to see patients after the two-week interval so the effects of the Botox® may be assessed and a follow-up treatment may be done if necessary
There is a small percentage of the population who develop antibodies to the Botox and the treatment is ineffective.
What other areas besides the face may Botox be used?
The glabella and crowfeet are the only approved areas of the face that may be treated with Botox®. There are many label uses for Botox that are becoming increasingly popular with great results. These areas include the horizontal and vertical neck bands, mouth corners, chin, jaw line, lip lines, and underarms for excessive sweating.
How long does a Botox treatment take?
A Botox® treatment takes 15-20 minutes and lasts 3-4 months, after which you may return for a follow-up injection. Some doctors report that after several treatments, the effect of Botox® appears to last longer with each injection.
Candidates
Botox can be used by almost anyone. However, patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding are not appropriate candidates.
Common indications for treatment include:
- Frown lines
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crow’s feet or laugh lines
- Fine wrinkles around the lips
Risks and Complications
There are few risks involved with a Botox® treatment. Less than 5 percent of patients may experience a slight, temporary heaviness of the eyelid which normally corrects itself after 2 weeks. There may be temporary bruising at the site of injection but this can be covered with make-up. Because Botox® is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body, there is no danger of developing botulism. Patients are able to resume normal activity but must refrain from exercising or facial massages for 4 hours after a treatment.
Cost
Depends on the number of areas that are treated.
$10 per unit up to 40 units.
$8 per unit above 40 units.
Choosing you Injector:
When you are choosing a person or a site to have your injection treatments, there are certain qualifications of which you must be aware.
These procedures should only be performed by trained medical technicians, i.e., a physician or a nurse, who have an in-depth knowledge about facial anatomy, the chemical composition of the product, various injection techniques and the ability to treat or recognize any complications that may arise.
If you are receiving a treatment from an aesthetic nurse specialist, she must be under the direction of a physician who is also trained to do these procedures. Ask about their medical education and where they have been trained to do the injection procedures. Are they maintaining this training by attending annual update courses?
These treatments should be done in a clean, clinical environment by someone who can recognize the importance of sterile techniques.
